Cartographic sketch of
Chiongs' abductor that.. of cop prober

WHILE the PNP does not have specific suspects in the abduction of the two Chiong sisters, it already blundered in showing a cartographic sketch of a suspect.

Task Force Chiong leader, Sr. Supt. Fritz Quiñanola called a "false alarm" the presentation of the Criminal Investigation Group (CIG) 7 of a police investigator looking into the Chiong case as a suspect.

SUN.STAR DAILY was told earlier that the cartographic sketch of a suspect reportedly matched the facial features of van-for-hire driver Alberto Caño.

Police released Caño and his conductor Ariel Balansag three days after they were picked up. Police later admitted that they had no solid proof linking Caño and Balansag to the case.

PNP 7 director Ramsey Ocampo said the CIG 7 had to release the two from jail following the expiration of the reglamentary period for their detention.

"There was no sketch from the National Bureau mmm

of Investigation (NBI), the only sketch was from CIG 7 which turned out to be that of a policeman investigating the case," Quiñanola told reporters.

The policeman, Quiñanola said, was mistaken to be a suspect by a resident of Sitio Tan-awan, Barangay Guadalupe, Carcar and the cartographic sketch was based on the resident's description of the policeman.

"The resident claimed that the (police)man went to his house to get a bottle of liquor which was later retrieved at the crime scene," Quiñanola said.

The body of Marijoy, 21, was found in a remote cliff in Sitio Tan-awan three days after she and her older sister, Jacqueline, disappeared on the evening of July 16.

But Quiñanola said they have many suspects. "The suspects could be ordinary addicts, extra-ordinary addicts or non-addicts," he said. GC

Comments:  In other words, the van-for-hire driver was arrested based on a cartographic sketch of a policeman.

How can a resident make a mistake in describing  the facial description of a suspect who bought a bottle of liquor with that of an investigator? Who is this mysterious policeman?

Quiñanola said they have many suspects. "The suspects could be ordinary addicts, extra-ordinary addicts or non-addicts," he said. In short, they had nothing.
